Volunteer at TSBVI

Learn about the volunteer opportunities at TSBVI.

Volunteers at TSBVI contribute to the success of our students by giving their time to support teachers and students. To become a volunteer, visit http://getinvolved.tsbvi.edu/ and complete the volunteer application. Once your application is approved, you will receive information about orientation date(s) by email. You will learn about volunteer opportunities at the orientation and select a placement.

Volunteer Structure

We request volunteers sign up for at least one hour per week for an entire semester. This regular commitment allows volunteers, teachers, and students to develop a rapport and bond as a team. Volunteer opportunities include tutoring, recreational activities, special events, and assisting instructional or residential staff.

Mission

We serve as a leading center of expertise and resources, working in partnership with schools, families, communities, and organizations to transform educational outcomes for students, ages birth to 22, who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind.

What is TSBVI

TSBVI is a school that partners with independent school districts in Texas to provide instructional and related services to students ages 6–21 who are blind, deafblind, or visually impaired. We are a unique public school established by the Texas Legislature as one of several alternative educational placements guaranteed to students to ensure that learning occurs in an environment appropriate to meet their individual needs. There is no cost to students or their families for the instructional and residential services of the School.
