Alert message

Dear Teachers,

The help of you and your students is needed for a two-phase study on graphics and student strategies that we are conducting at the University of British Columbia.  Phase 1 involves a survey that we would like as many teachers of students with visual impairments (TSVIs) and students in North America to take (there is a separate survey link for teachers and students posted below). We are excited to get the teacher and student perspective for this project and hope to have a strong Canadian showing! The links are below if you are willing to take the survey and/or have some of your students take the survey. Thank you in advance!

Teacher eligibility for the graphics survey: All teachers of students with visual impairments

Student eligibility for the graphics survey: A student with a visual impairment, in grades 4-12, has at least some academic classes, uses either visual or tactile graphics (we would like both perspectives) in classroom and/or testing situations.

Teacher Survey Link:

TSVIs: Click on the link below to take the survey.  By beginning the survey, you are consenting to participate (although you can leave the survey at anytime). No personal identifying information will be linked to your responses and the survey server is located in Canada. Please take the full survey in one sitting, as there is not an option to save and return. The survey should only take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Thank you!

Teacher - Tactile Graphics Survey

Student Survey Link:

This link below is the one your students should use to take the survey. No personal identifying information will be linked to your students' responses. By entering the survey they are assenting to participate, but can leave at anytime. The questions in the survey ask for the students' opinions and practices with using graphics in the classroom and on tests. There are no personal questions in the survey. Students should take the survey in one sitting, as there is not an option to save and return. The survey is estimated to take about 15 minutes to complete, but will be dependent on your student's reading speed and familiarity with filling out an electronic survey.  Thank you in advance for your help in getting the student voice!

The following is an email that can be sent to parents of students who will participate in the survey:

Dear Parents,

This email is to inform you that your child with a visual impairment is going to be asked to participate in an on-line survey that will ask about his/her experiences using graphic materials (pictures, charts, graphs, etc.) in the classroom and on tests. The survey is completely voluntary and your child can decide not to participate or stop taking the survey at any time.  Your child's name or other identifying information will not be asked on the survey. All answers are confidential.
