Braille dots spelling out "Braille Authority of North America" and the "B,A,N,A" are printed vertically and outlined in red.

Most of us have been wondering if there would ever be an update to “The Nemeth Braille Code for Mathematics and Science Notation 1972 Revision” better known as the Nemeth Bible or Green Book. At long last, The Nemeth Braille Code for Mathematics and Science Notation 2022 is now available at no cost in both PDF and BRF formats on the BANA (Braille Authority of North America) website. It only took us fifty years to get here!

The BANA announcement explains:

This revision has been a massive undertaking by volunteers who painstakingly scoured the entire code and created this valuable new resource for all who are involved in reading, producing, and teaching braille.

The purpose of this revision is to modernize the code and clarify the application of pre-existing as well as newly adopted rules for transcription of mathematics and science using Nemeth within the UEB code. This document replaces the 1972 edition, as well as any updates and provisional guidance previously published by BANA.

BANA is grateful to its Nemeth Committee for their diligent work in revising and updating this document.
