Discovering the Future: A Transition Workshop

“Discovering the Future” is an interactive weekend workshop designed for adult family members of middle and high school students with complex access needs, including those with visual and multiple disabilities or who are deafblind. Held every other spring in Austin, this event provides a dedicated space for families to navigate the transition from school to adult life.

This program is specifically tailored for those whose children will require long-term community support and life-long services after graduation. Throughout the weekend, family members participate in hands-on planning sessions, receive expert guidance on building person-centered transition plans, and connect with a supportive network of other families. Attendees leave with the tools, language, and confidence needed to advocate for their child’s unique needs in the next chapter of their lives.

The workshop occurs every other year in the spring, and is next set for Spring 2028. For more information, contact Deafblind Transition Consultant Heather Lightfoot.

Check out our Transition LiveBinder!

The binder consists of transition resources for VI professionals who work with visually impaired students who are preparing to transition to life after school.
