Outreach Transition Services

TSBVI Outreach Programs offers various resources, programs, and services to support person-centered transition planning for students who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision across Texas.

We believe preparing for the future starts early, offering dedicated support to help individuals and families navigate the shift to adulthood with confidence. We emphasize a person-centered approach, focusing on each individual’s unique dreams and abilities to build a meaningful path forward.

To ensure our services are accessible, we offer flexible consultation options tailored to your preferences. You can connect with our team through phone calls, Zoom, email, or in-person visits, ensuring you receive guidance in the format that works best for you.

We also partner with local school districts and agencies to plan for the transition to community life. Our team assists with pre-employment activities, leads person-centered planning groups, and shares innovative practices that promote high-quality outcomes for every person we support.

Additionally, we host specialized workshops and trainings throughout the year. These sessions provide vital advocacy and foster the independence needed for a seamless, fulfilling journey into the community.

Discovering the Future: A Transition Workshop

“Discovering the Future” is an interactive weekend workshop designed for adult family members of middle and high school students with complex access needs, including those with visual and multiple disabilities or who are deafblind. Held every other spring in Austin, this event provides a dedicated space for families to navigate the transition from school to adult life.

This program is specifically tailored for those whose children will require long-term community support and life-long services after graduation. Throughout the weekend, family members participate in hands-on planning sessions, receive expert guidance on building person-centered transition plans, and connect with a supportive network of other families. Attendees leave with the tools, language, and confidence needed to advocate for their child’s unique needs in the next chapter of their lives.
