Visually Impaired Outreach Program
The Visually Impaired Outreach Program provides information, support and training for families, professionals, paraprofessionals, and community members who work with the approximately 11,000 children and youth (ages birth to 22) in Texas who are visually impaired including those with multiple disabilities.
Our staff includes consultants with many years of experience in the field of visual impairments. They divide their focus to address the needs of the educators and families of children and students with vision impairment. Requests for services may include school and home consultations, development and presentation of local, regional, and statewide training events, the development of a variety of resources, and products about instruction for students with visual impairment including those with additional disabilities. Most of our staff have special areas of expertise such as math instruction, braille and tactile graphics, assessment, instructional strategies for students with multiple disabilities, orientation and mobility, and of course, the Expanded Core Curriculum.
