Alert message

Tactile symbols are concrete representations developed for individuals who are totally blind or function as if they were totally blind and who have a practical need for a graphic language system.

Toilet training any child can be a challenge.  If the child is also visually impaired or deafblind the process becomes even more difficult.

Successful transition to adulthood for students with visual impairments and deafblindness requires planning and is required by law beginning at age 16.  For students and parents this is a move from the school system where they are entitled to services into adult systems that are based on eligibility.  There is much to learn and even more to understand as the student and his/her family and educational team make this journey.

Infants with visual impairments must meet eligibility criteria before they receive VI or O&M services. The assessment that must be conducted by a TVI or O&M is the Functional Vision evaluation. The TVI then conducts the Learning Media Assessment and the O&M conducts the O&M evaluation.
