Grades 2 - 3
This series class is designed to provide students who are visually impaired with the ability to access literacy instruction and enrichment through use of a comprehensive approach. This program includes activities promoting skill acquisition in these five areas:
- Phonemic Awareness: supports the ability to manipulate individual sounds in words.
- Phonics: supports the use of sounds & spelling correspondences to decode written words.
- Fluency: building sufficient speed, accuracy, and expression to increase comprehension.
- Vocabulary: expanding the body of words and their meanings in order to comprehend text.
- Text Comprehension: making meaning out of text by using prior experiences, vocabulary, and reasoning.
