To use one’s hand to hold and manipulate objects is the foundation for a vast number of human activities. However, for some children, this ability to grasp does not develop independently, which severely limits their engagement with the environment. Lilli Nielsen’s The Comprehending Hand focuses on the development of grasp and provides considerations and methods for facilitating fine motor skill acquisition in children with complex access needs. During this study group the article will be broken down into sections and discussed. The study group will meet four times during the school year on Thursdays from 3-4pm.
