CLD (TSBVI) – Building, Grounds, and Equipment Management: Names of TSBVI Buildings

TSBVI school buildings, or physical facilities, may be named after persons. The Board shall approve recommending to the Legislature the naming of TSBVI school buildings, or physical facilities, after persons.

A building may bear the name of a person only if the person is deceased and was significant in the state’s history. Tex. Gov’t Code 2165.005

The Board may establish further criteria in relation to its deliberation, consideration and approval process.

Nominations shall be submitted, in writing, by any current, or former, TSBVI employee, student, or Board member, to the Superintendent in a format available from the Superintendent no later than October 1 of even-numbered years. The Board is not obligated to act on any nomination. However, if the Board is to formally consider approval/disapproval, this must be accomplished at the November Board meeting of even-numbered years.

ROLE OF THE GENERAL SERVICES COMMISSION

The General Services Commission shall submit names proposed for a new state building, or proposals to rename an existing state building, to the presiding officers of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The name proposed by the commission for a state building may be approved and authorized only by concurrent resolution passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor.
