Call to Order
Lee Sonnenberg, Board President, called the May 5, 2026, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Board of Trustees (TSBVI) meeting to order at 12:01 p.m.
Introduction of Board Members and Audience
Lee Sonnenberg was present at TSBVI. Board members present via Zoom were Ernest Worthington, Julie Prause, Belinda Rudinger, Brenda Lee, Dr. Beth Jones, and Dan Brown.
Hillary Rodriguez was unable to attend the meeting.
Audience members present were Jenny Wells, General Counsel; Emily Coleman, Superintendent; and Veronica Keating, Executive Assistant.
Public Comments/Open Forum
There was no one signed up for public comment.
Pursuant to Texas Government Code 551.074 and 551.071, the Board will discuss, deliberate, and obtain legal advice on the nonrenewal of a term contract of a classroom teacher.
Mr. Sonnenberg stated that the Board would recess the open session and convene in a closed meeting to discuss the following item listed under agenda item #4 – Pursuant to Texas Government Code 551.074 and 551.071, the Board will discuss, deliberate, and obtain legal advice on the nonrenewal of a term contract of a classroom teacher.
No voting would take place in the closed meeting. Any action the Board wishes to take as a result of discussions in closed meeting would take place after the Board reconvened in the open meeting. It was 12:03 p.m.
The Board will return to Open Session to take possible action on items discussed in Closed Session
At 12:10 p.m., the Board convened in open session.
Mr. Brown made a motion that the Board non-renew the term contract as discussed in closed session. Brenda Lee seconded the motion. All members present voted unanimously to pass the motion.
Adjournment
Brenda Lee motioned to adjourn the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Board of Trustees meeting at 12:12 p.m. Ernest Worthington seconded the motion. All members present voted unanimously to pass the motion.
