Getting Involved

Become a Volunteer
Alex Argūello, our Head of Community Engagement, can always find ways for you to help make TSBVI a better place.

Donate to All Blind Children of Texas
The mission of All Blind Children of Texas is to be a resource for the optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social development of all blind children in Texas. ABCTX uses donor funds to support Expanded Core Curriculum programs that TVIs and COMS throughout Texas plan for their VI students but aren’t able to get district funds. ABCTX has funded several programs at TSBVI, such as the Badgerdog Creative Writing Program, specific activities of Camp Challenge, and sponsorship of White Cane Day (e.g., providing the clown, climbing wall, and bounce house).

TSBVI thanks the following Community Partners! These organizations have a long tradition of volunteering their time and donating money to support our students.

Community Partners

  • All Blind Children of Texas – A non-profit organization serving blind and visually impaired children in Texas.
  • Delta Gamma – Delta Gamma chapters from the University of Texas and Texas State University donate funds, provide volunteer help whenever called upon, and host activities for TSBVI students.
  • Junior League of Austin – Junior League volunteers contribute to the literacy of our students by recording audio books and helping transcribe books into braille. The recorded books are placed in the library collection for checkout. The Junior League also regularly provides grants to purchase: books, media players, and listening equipment.
  • Lions Club – In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions Club International to be Knights of the Blind.
  • Huston-Tillotson University – Student athletes serve as guide runners and regularly volunteer at the annual Duo Dash 1K event.
