ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborate with Outreach team members and TSBVI staff to plan and deliver technical assistance to families and local education agencies serving students who are blind, low vision, or deafblind.
  • Partner with Education Service Centers, Texas Workforce Commission, Health and Human Services Commission, Regional Day School Programs for the Deaf, and local education agencies to design and plan implementation of appropriate transition services and programming for students across a variety of settings, including home and community.
  • Develop, collect, and maintain instructional and technical assistance materials to support consultation and training activities.
  • Engage with families and family organizations to support educational services and family involvement.
  • Coordinate and provide training at other agencies on an individual, small group, or formal workshop basis.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of statewide conferences on topics related to evaluation and programming (i.e., Transition, Home and Community-Based Services, etc.).
  • Participate in the development of systems-oriented guidance to the field of blind, low vision, and deafblind education at national, state, regional, and local levels.
  • Maintain documentation of Outreach activities, including pre- and post-training assessments, participant rosters, and records necessary for grant reporting and justification of expenditures.
  • Assess and develop ongoing professional development through conferences, workshops, coursework, and personal research.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Performs all related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five years of experience working with students who are blind and low vision in public school settings, including experience as an itinerant teacher.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (Original college or university transcript(s) required at time of interview), with graduate coursework completed in the area of vision impairment.
  • Hold or be eligible to receive a Texas teacher of students with visual impairment endorsement or be a certified orientation and mobility specialist.
  • Demonstrated experience with supporting educational approaches frequently used with students who are blind or low vision.
  • Evidence of strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with professionals, paraprofessionals, families, school staff, and agency personnel.
  • Proven skills in planning, organizing, and managing complex tasks and projects.
  • Ability to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with transition-aged students, their families, state agencies, and community organizations.
  • Experience as a TVI or COMS working with a wide range of students who are blind, low vision, or deafblind.
  • Knowledge and experience navigating transition planning and systems.
  • Experience delivering professional development through trainings and workshops.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach professionals and families.
  • Spanish language and/or ASL proficiency.
  • Experience creating and delivering online learning resources, including webinars, videoconferences, and web-based content.
  • Expertise in adapting and delivering instruction in academic content areas (literacy, science, math, etc.) and the Expanded Core Curriculum.
