ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Collaborates with Texas Tech University and Stephen F. Austin University to match newly hired COMS and TVIs with a mentor.
  • Collaborates with TSBVI teaching staff and administrators to organize and conduct three mentor centers each year.
  • Monitors and maintains records of mentor/protégé documentation.
  • Organizes and presents Mentor Training for newly identified mentors.
  • Collaborates with Outreach staff for the planning of and participation in the Personnel Preparation Advisory Group (PPAG).
  • Maintain a comprehensive resource library to support new VI professionals
  • Participate in the Quality Programs for Students with Visual Impairments (QPVI) as needed.
  • Update and maintain the TSBVI web pages related to the Mentor Program
  • Attend work regularly per TSBVI leave policy and procedures.
  • Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and handbooks.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. [Applicant selected for hire will be required to submit a copy of college or university transcripts(s)].
  • Must have a Texas certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments.
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience as an itinerant teacher of students with visual impairments in public schools.
  • Must have experience collaborating with Texas Education Service Center VI-related education specialists. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience conducting workshops and trainings with VI professionals.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite.
  • Familiarity using spreadsheets.
