ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Assesses students in the area of communication in accordance with state regulations and rules; prepares assessment reports and programming recommendations in a timely manner; assists teaching staff in assessing communication
• Consults with instructional and residential staff regarding communication programming for students; assists in IEP development
• Assists staff in infusing communication goals and instruction into all areas of programming
• Plans and carries out individual communication programming as required
• Maintains an effective communication curriculum for the school and trains staff in its use; updates curriculum as needed
• Plans and conducts staff in-service training in communication
• Participates in IEP planning, ARD committee, team and other staff meetings as required
• Works cooperatively with audiological/otological program to insure the delivery of services to students with hearing impairments as required
• Collaborate with assistive technology teachers to meet student needs in the area of assistive technology, including speech-generating devices
• Provides parents and local school district staff with information and training related to the communication needs of their children
• Utilizes equipment and facilities in the most effective manner to support the instructional program
• Promotes positive relations through effective communication and involvement with staff, family, appropriate agencies and community members to meet individual student needs
• Continues professional growth and development
• Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy
• Complies with all agency policies and procedures
• Performs related work as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university (College or university transcript(s) required at time of hire)
• Licensed in Texas as a Speech Language Pathologist OR eligible for Clinical Fellowship Year placement [Applicant selected for hire will be required to submit a copy of license]
• Must be willing to meet TSBVI requirements for training in foundations of visual impairments
• Experience working with children with sensory impairments and/or multiple disabilities
• Skill in working harmoniously as a member of an interdisciplinary support staff team
• Skill in performing both direct service and consultation in classrooms
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Skill in using sign language
• Experience assessing and treating swallowing disorders
