Essential Job Functions

  • Assumes responsibility for the operation of the dorm in the absence of the dorm manager, including supervising staff in the implementation of student programming. 
  • Assists with student travel projections and family communication in the absence of the dorm manager.
  • Provides responsible supervision and instruction of students and other Residential Instructors.
  • Ensures that medication schedules are followed and attends to any special medical/physical needs of students.
  • Writes meaningful and objectively stated present level of functioning reports and/or quarterly reports addressing assigned IEP areas.
  • Provides new staff with job training and overall orientation to the workplace.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy.
  • Completes process to obtain a TSBVI Procurement Card within 3 months of hire date.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Six months full-time direct care experience at TSBVI
  • One year and six months full-time direct care, social services, human services, or closely related experience; may substitute 45 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience
  • Skill in completing assigned tasks and meeting established deadlines 
  • Skill in data collection and report writing
  • Skill in developing professional relations with parents, other staff and community
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Must have sufficient physical strength to assist in lifting and/or transferring students up to adult age
  • Ability to communicate, receptively and expressively, through both sign language and oral speech, or just oral speech, with ASL fluent and non-signing staff and students

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Completes process to become TSBVI Driver within 3 months of hire date if eligible.
