ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Actively participates as a member of designated student teams, contributing to the collaborative development and implementation of individualized educational plans.
- Implements educational and developmental programs for students during evening and occasional weekend hours, ensuring consistency and adherence to established goals.
- Plans and organizes activities that support the students’ academic, daily living, leisure, and social skills development, in alignment with the programs designed by teachers and the student team.
- Maintains the residential facilities to create and sustain an optimal learning environment that enhances student engagement and success.
- May be required to participate in water-based activities, providing supervision and monitoring students during swimming sessions.
- In emergency situations, may be called upon to administer CPR or perform the Heimlich maneuver, contingent upon completion of required training.
- Responds to student interactions requiring de-escalation or crisis intervention, utilizing appropriate techniques and strategies after receiving specialized training.
- Attend work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy
- Comply with all applicable security and safety rules, regulations, and standards
- Perform related work as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduation or equivalent
- 1-year experience of continuous employment
- Skill in working harmoniously with children and adults
- Must be able to lift 25-50 lb
- Must be willing to learn basic sign language if required by student assignment
- Must be able to safely oversee and recognize potential safety risks for groups of up to 15 students who fall within a wide range of age, cognitive, and physical abilities.
- Ability to engage in reciprocal communication with assigned students that may use a variety of communication forms including formal and informal language modes (gestures, sounds, use of real objects or symbols).
- Displays proficient computer skills for effective team communication and accurate data entry.
- Former TSBVI students must have not attended TSBVI for 4 years
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous child/adult related experience in a child care, group home, educational, or medical facility setting.
- Ability to swim and to accompany students into the pool during swimming activities.
- Current driver’s license with good driving record.
