ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Drives students and staff to designated cities throughout Texas on weekends for Weekends Home program; serves as an emergency back-up driver during shift when not driving
  • Serves in supportive role on trips by assisting staff with the management of students
  • Assists students on and off vehicles; ensures safe and timely arrival to destination
  • Maintains discipline and safety of students during transportation
  • Maintains vehicle operation records and provides information for vehicle repair log
  • Performs routine vehicle maintenance functions, including checking fluid levels, tire pressures and related items
  • Reports problems and potential hazards in vehicle operation to supervisor
  • Maintains vehicle cleanliness
  • Provides direct care as required
  • Attend work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy.
  • Comply with all applicable security and safety rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

** Applicants who meet all the minimum qualifications with the exception of the current CDL, Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training and Air Brake Certification may be considered on the condition that they obtain the required training and certification within the first two months of employment.

** Drug and alcohol testing is required for this position on a pre-employment basis and thereafter on the basis of random selectionreasonable suspicion/cause, following an accident, prior to return to duty following a drug and/or alcohol policy violation, or following referral to a Substance Abuse Professional.

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • One year full-time professional driving or closely related experience; may substitute 30 college credit hours (one year) from an accredited college or university for required experience
  • Texas Commercial Driver License Class A or B, including a good driving record [Copy of Texas Commercial Driver’s License required at time of interview]
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate which requires a physical exam before driving
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Air Brake certification
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English
  • Must have a work reference available by phone during regular business hours
  • Pre-employment alcohol and drug testing is required

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current air brake and passenger endorsement
  • Experience with commercial or public transportation and working with children with disabilities
