ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with developing, maintaining and implementing the educational program for students transitioning into adult life.
  • Works directly with teachers and other staff in order to improve and individualize instruction for students.
  • Confers with teachers and other staff about teaching problems; assists teachers with lesson planning.
  • Confers and coordinates with students, staff, parents and local school districts as appropriate in developing Individualized Education Programs for assigned students.
  • Facilitates team meetings, ARD planning meetings and ARD meetings as required.
  • Assists/trains teachers regarding documentation needed for ARD meetings (e.g., goals & objectives, modifications, reports, assessments, graduation plans).
  • Assists teachers who have not yet obtained Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) certification to complete Functional Vision Evaluations & Learning Media Assessments; serves as TSVI for students of non-TSVI certified teachers as assigned.
  • Assigns, reviews, approves and facilitates timely completion of educational reports and materials for ARD meetings.
  • Supervises student transition planning by the instructional team as required.
  • Assists with planning and scheduling.
  • Assists and trains teachers in using the school’s educational software and information management system.
  • Assists and trains teachers in completion of assessments and documentation for the Performance Indicator accountability system.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of staff development.
  • Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy and procedure.
  • Complies with all agency policies, procedures and handbooks.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university [Applicant selected for hire will be required to submit a copy of all college or university transcripts].
  • Texas teacher certification, including certification as a teacher of students with visual impairment.
  • Experience as a teacher of students with visual and multiple impairments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including skill in consulting and collaborating effectively with colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent teaching skills and practices.
  • Knowledge of the Admission-Review-Dismissal (ARD) process.
  • Skill in learning and assisting others with the school’s educational software and information management systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Faculty committee chairperson or project committee member experience.
