ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Collaborate with Outreach team members and TSBVI staff to plan and deliver technical assistance to families and local education agencies serving students who are blind, low vision, or deafblind.
• Partner with agencies such as Education Service Centers, Texas Workforce Commission, Health and Human Services Commission, and local education agencies to design and plan implementation of appropriate services and programming for students who are blind and low vision, across a variety of settings.
• Develop, collect, and maintain instructional and technical assistance materials to support consultation and training activities.
• Engage with families and family organizations to support educational services and family involvement.
• Coordinate and provide training at other agencies on an individual, small group, or formal workshop basis.
• Contribute to the planning and implementation of statewide conferences on topics related to evaluation and programming for students who are blind and low vision.
• Participate in the development of systems-oriented guidance in the field of blind, low vision, and deafblind education at national, state, regional, and local levels.
• Maintain documentation of Outreach activities, including pre- and post-training assessments, participant rosters, and records necessary for grant reporting and justification of expenditures.
• Assess and develop ongoing professional development through conferences, workshops, coursework, and personal research.
• Attend work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy.
• Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
• Perform related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of five years of experience working as a TVI with students who are blind and low vision in public school settings.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (Original college or university transcript(s) required at time of interview), with graduate coursework completed in the area of vision impairment.
• Hold or be eligible to receive a Texas teacher of students with visual impairment endorsement.
• Demonstrated experience with supporting educational strategies frequently used with students who are blind and low vision.
• Experience supporting students who are blind and low vision in state assessment processes, including knowledge of required statewide assessments, appropriate testing accommodations, and accessibility features. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with educational teams to ensure assessment materials and testing environments are accessible and compliant with state and federal requirements.
• Experience providing instruction and consultation in the use of low vision devices and adaptive visual strategies for students who are low vision. Knowledge of optical devices, environmental adaptations, and methods for integrating low vision tools into educational and functional activities to maximize visual efficiency and access.
• Evidence of strong organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with professionals, paraprofessionals, families, school staff, and agency personnel.
• Proven skills in planning, organizing, and managing complex tasks and projects.
• Ability to travel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience as a TVI working with students who are blind or low vision, their families, state agencies, and community organizations, including experience as an itinerant teacher.
• Advanced degree and/or certification as a CLVT.
• Significant experience in preparing and delivering public presentations and written materials in the area of low vision.
• Experience delivering professional development through trainings and workshops.
• Demonstrated ability to coach professionals and families.
• Spanish language and/or ASL proficiency.
• Experience creating and delivering online learning resources, including webinars, videoconferences, and web-based content.
• Expertise in adapting and delivering instruction in academic content areas (literacy, science, math, etc.) and the Expanded Core Curriculum.
