Essential Job Functions
- Teaches students concepts related to assistive technology applications and equipment for students with visual impairments, additional impairments and students who are Deafblind.
- Effectively models and promotes 21st Century digital teaching methods and research-based strategies aligned with International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards that encourage active student learning through the integration of technology.
- May teach courses in Technology Applications.
- Collaborates with Instructional Technology Coordinator and other technology teachers to plan and provide staff development on assistive and instructional technology applications.
- Serves as an assistive technology subject matter expert (SME) for the school community by consulting with and supporting students and staff regarding the evaluation, selection, training, implementation, and support of assistive technology.
- Collaborates with Instructional Technology Coordinator and other technology teachers to order equipment for students and teachers.
- Completes Assistive Technology Evaluations and Reports for assigned students.
- Cooperates with other teachers in planning and implementing the instructional program for the students assigned.
- Works with the Instructional Technology Coordinator and other team members in identifying and solving problems related to his/her students in school, dormitory, and community environments.
- Diagnoses and assesses student needs to determine instructional goals and objectives.
- Utilizes effective teaching techniques and classroom strategies to accommodate the various learning styles and modes of his/her student.
- Performs assignments effectively relating to all department and school policies and procedures.
- Utilizes professional classroom management techniques to assist students in learning.
- Continues professional growth and development.
- Attends work regularly in accordance with TSBVI leave policy.
- Complies with all agency policies and procedures.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (Original college or university transcript(s) required at time of hiring). Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
- Must have Special Education EC-12, Technology Applications or Computer Science teaching certification or other appropriate assistive technology certification
- If a teacher, must have or be willing to obtain Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments teaching certification within a specified period of time.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university (Original college or university transcript(s) required at time of hiring.) Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Preferred Qualifications
- ACVREP Assistive Technology Specialist, RESNA Assistive Technology Professional, Apple Teacher and/or Google Educator certifications.
- Experience teaching assistive technology concepts to students with visual impairments.
