Electrifying News – The Paralympics Begin!

A few events are happening this week including the state holiday, Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) Day on August 27th celebrating his birthday. On August 28th, the Paralympics Opening Ceremony will be held starting at 1:00p CST or 8:00p Paris local time. Schedules for goalball, blind football, and other events can be found online. Today is Women’s Equality Day, which celebrates the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. If you haven’t registered yet for this fall’s election, please be sure to do so!

During the last legislative session, a 5% salary increase (with a minimum of $3000 per year, prorated for employees less than 40 hours per week) for classified employees was approved for last year and this year. This year’s 5% increase will take effect on September 1, 2024 thus be included in the October 1, 2024 paycheck. We’re grateful for the approval of these cost-of-living increases.

Related to contract staff who align to AISD, on August 19, 2024 the AISD Board approved an election for a Voter Authorized Tax Ratification Election (VATRE) in November 2024. The outcome of that election will then determine any increases for contract staff and we will continue providing these salary updates, too.
