Electrifying News – Juneteenth
Summer students arrived yesterday and they are off and running. Visiting with families, children, and young adults definitely made my Sunday. Thanks to all who worked the registration event and the dorm staff who worked longer shifts. Go Wildcats!
One week from today we celebrate Juneteenth, recognizing the freedom of enslaved African Americans. The Smithsonian refers to it as, “America’s Second Independence Day.” Many celebrations are available throughout the Austin area this weekend including the Juneteenth Parade on Saturday, June 17th, kicking off at 10 am on Salina Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The parade will be followed by an all-day festival at Rosewood Park.
Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day! I hope we all can take a moment to recognize our fathers, the father figures in our lives, or the fathers of our children. In addition, many may spend the day remembering those important people we have lost, and our thoughts are with you, too.
Have a great week!
