Electrifying News – Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, TSBVI! I’m looking forward to 2024 and the exciting work we will complete on behalf of the 11,000 students across Texas who are blind, deafblind, or have low vision. Students who reside on campus return today and all students resume classes tomorrow.
This week we are celebrating TSBVI’s first annual STEM Week January 10th – 12th. The Maker Space in Building 602 will be open Wednesday – Friday during 2nd thru 4th period (8:45 – 11:25 am) for anyone wanting to check it out. Classes can reach out to Chris Correll for workshop events and more.
The TSBVI Campus Culture Committee is seeking additional participants to attend our monthly meetings and provide insight and ideas surrounding inclusion, equity, and more. Our next meeting will be held January 25th from 3:15 – 4:15 pm in Zoom. If you have questions prior to participating, please contact Angela Wolf. Otherwise, simply join us if you can!
On Monday, January 15th, we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is a staff and student holiday. When reflecting upon his work, I’m always drawn to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington DC. A different quotation always speaks to me and today it’s a quote from 1965, “We must come to see that the end we seek is a society at peace with itself, a society that can live with its conscience.”
Due to the holiday, there will be no Electrifying News next week. I hope you all had a wonderful winter break. Here’s to 2024!
Have a great week,
Emily Coleman, Superintendent
