Electrifying News – Congratulations Graduates!
Graduation is happening Friday, May 26th, at 1:00 pm in the Goodenough Auditorium! Our commencement speaker this year will be NFB President Mark Riccobono. Overflow seating will be in the Recreation Building or you can view online. For those on campus, please stop by and congratulate the graduates immediately after the ceremony in the cafeteria. Parking at the front of campus will be reserved for families and graduation attendees. All of our Comprehensive Program students will be traveling home on Friday for the summer.
On Thursday, May 25th, we have a meeting of the TSBVI Board of Trustees. Committees will meet at 8 am followed by the regular board meeting at 10:15 am in the boardroom. Look online for the full agenda to be posted soon. The highlight of our meeting will be recognizing two of our retirees, Michael Clinkscales and Dr. Kay Pruett.
Memorial Day is next Monday and due to the state holiday there will be no Electrifying News. Our first registration day for summer programs will be Sunday, June 11th. We look forward to welcoming new faces on campus. Four weeks of summer instruction is a critical component of the array of services we offer the 11,000 students across Texas who are blind, low vision, and Deafblind.
Last week, Austin ISD approved pay increases for contract staff, including teachers. Those TSBVI employees on contracts will have increased salaries for the upcoming school year. Until we receive details from the district, we cannot provide more information at this time. We’ll update you when we can.
Finally, we will see additional facilities work happening when students aren’t on campus after this week until summer programs begin. One example is elevator maintenance on June 1st, which may render them unusable for a time.
Have a great week!
Emily Coleman, Superintendent
