Electrifying News – Congrats Retirees!

An embarrassing thing happened to me today. It appears I’ve been writing and emailing the May Electrifying News only to myself. I posted on the website, but when drafting the email update, I forgot to include the campus community. Soooooo, I’ve been very informed, and I apologize for not making sure you are, too. If you want to read the last two updates you can find the May 5th and May 12th eNews online.

Today, we celebrated the retirement of Lyn Robertson, Joanne Rodgers, Chrissy Cowan, Paula Willson, and Carolina Gonzalez. Thanks to the staff who attended to share well-wishes and enjoy some cake. Please be sure to sign their retirement photo gifts in the Comprehensive Programs Office or Outreach for Chrissy. They’ve done so many great things on behalf of students who are blind, low vision, and deafblind in Texas and we hope they’ll stay in touch!

Recently, our annual intruder audit was completed. This involves an unknown visitor attempting to enter a building unannounced and also check for door functioning and security across campus. Following their audit, they met with campus security and reported no findings. Thanks to everyone for your continued diligence in recognizing unauthorized visitors and keeping our community safe.

Next week, students return to campus on Sunday and therefore school will be held Monday, which is also Memorial Day. On Thursday, Graduation will be held at 1:00p in the Auditorium. On Friday, the TSBVI Board of Trustees will hold their regularly scheduled meeting at 10:15a in the Boardroom in Building 600.

Again, I apologize for not sharing the news recently. I hope you still caught the Art Silent Auction, Fiesta, Moana Jr., and more. The events across campus lately have been fabulous and demonstrate the widespread talent of our incredible staff. I’ll work to be more talented in my email communication! I’m definitely relating to this quote from Tracee Ellis Ross, “I don’t always feel fierce and fearless, but I do feel like I’m a rock star at being human.”

Have a great week!
Emily Coleman, Superintendent
