Monday, January 19th, is a staff and student holiday remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and there will be no Electrifying News. It will be a travel day for students. TSBVI will celebrate on January 21st with a special meal from the cafeteria, the Dr. King Dinner.

Well known for many written works, I recently landed on a small piece he wrote in 1947 titled “The Purpose of Education.” Within, Dr. King stated, “We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education. The complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate.”

As we continue to fulfill the mission of TSBVI, I think it’s important to recognize Dr. King’s remarks and talk to our students about their goals and where they wish to concentrate. “Worthy objectives” are critical and spark a fire within that can lead to a fulfilling life.

Have a great week!
