Electrifying News – Celebrating Juneteenth
Thursday, June 19th, we celebrate Juneteenth. This federal holiday recognizes when news of the emancipation of enslaved Africans in America reached Galveston, TX. There will be a parade in Austin from 10a – 12p and a festival beginning at 12p on Thursday. Information about the event can be found online. Thanks to our employees who will be working due to summer programs on this important holiday.
We’re continuing to work on allocating a budget toward removing styrofoam from the cafeteria. We’re hopeful that all products will be biodegradable when we return in August. It’s hard to tell, but the current cups continue to be an environmentally friendly material even though they appear to be styrofoam. The company isn’t labelling them as such anymore, but feel free to ask about them in the cafeteria if you’re curious.
Friday, June 20th, is the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year (sunlight-wise) in the Northern Hemisphere. Given more sun feels like more heat, I hope you’re all finding water, shade, and AC to keep cool.
Have a great week!
