Electrifying News – Board Meeting Friday

Back to school training and staff returns are well underway. Thank you to the campus leadership who spent the summer preparing. The all-staff return will be Monday, August 10th. Please attend at 10:30am in the auditorium for a welcome, service pins, and a keynote speaker. We will have boxed lunches for “grab-n-go” from 12-1 in the cafeteria on the 10th, too. Be sure to keep track of your department’s training schedule for additional events.

The TSBVI Board of Trustees will hold a regularly scheduled meeting this week on Friday, August 7th, at 8:00am without committee meetings. The school’s Safety and Security Committee will meet on Thursday, August 6th, at 3:00pm. Both meetings will be held in the boardroom of building 600 and the agendas can be found online. The Board will welcome a new member, Rusty Peterson, who is serving as a parent of children who are blind or have low vision. We look forward to working with him!

The Braille Challenge Finals were in LA in late June and Texas had a few students represent. Congrats to EmmaGrace O. who won first place for Varsity level! Leo D. and Caylen C. were also finalists. With only 50 students competing from across the country, it’s incredible we had 3 Texas stars.

Last week, the International Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AERBVI) conference was held in Louisville, KY. TSBVI staff presented from across departments and highlighted our important work. Family Lynx leader, Barbara Knighton, presented on her lived experiences as a parent of a blind child and gave a glowing review of our school and staff. Being a premier school in the field of blindness education, it’s critical we share the positive impact we’re having on students.

Have a great week!
