Section 504 & 508

  • Section 504 states:
    (a) No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States, &, shall, solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
  • Section 504 objectively measures Web Accessibility compliance using the standards established by the Access Board (aka Section 508 Standards).
  • Many non-federal organizations are adopting the Access Board standard as their own accessibility standard. www.access-board.gov/sec508/guide/1194.22.htm
