1. It just won't come on: is the adaptive device and/or software turned on?
2. Still won't come on: is the power cord plugged in?
3. Still won't come on: is there electrical power in the wall plug you are using?
4. Still won't come on: if you are using a surge protector, is it plugged into the wall? Is It turned on?
5. Lights up but still won't work: are the cables all securely attached and plugged into the appropriate place on the system?
6. Computer works, but scanner won't: where these devices turned on in the order recommended in your manual?
7. Computer comes on but won't talk: if you are using speech and large print on a computer system, are these programs loading in the proper order? (Example: JAWS must load first in order to run appropriately, i.e. before the large print program)
8. Computer works, speech comes up, but won't talk: if you are using an external speech synthesizer, is it plugged in? Turned on? Is the volume turned up loud enough to hear?
9. Note taker won't work: is the battery charged?
10. Embossor won't braille or printer won't print: If you are using both a print printer and a braille embossor, is the AM switch turned to the appropriate one? Is the printer/embossor you want to use selected in the program you are trying to print from?
11. Color printer suddenly starts printing weird colors: when was the last time you installed a new ink cartridge?
12. Printer produces smudged or spotted documents: when was the last time you cleaned and aligned the print heads? (this is done through the printer's software and instructions will be in the manual which came with the printer)
