JAWS  Lesson: PEGASUS email

(Network connection needed)

Text should be read to student. Text in bold explains to the student what happens in the Pegasus email program.

  1. When the student turns on the computer, it will be necessary to log on.
  2. Activate the Start Menu (Windows Key), use the up or down arrows to select and open Programs (Enter key), and use down arrows to select and open Pegasus (Enter key), use the down arrow to select and open Pegasus mail for Win 32 (Enter key). The student will now be in the inbox folder list of new email messages.
  3. Use the down arrows to read how many messages are in the inbox, and who sent them.
  4. Use the up arrow to return to the first message, and open it by pressing Enter. This will open the email message in a new window.
  5. If the message does not read automatically, then use the JAWS command ALT+A to read the entire screen. Next, use the Windows command CTRL+Home to return to the top of the message.
  6. Now use the JAWS command, ALT+Y to read the current line. This should read the From line. Next use the JAWS command, ALT+N to proceed through the message reading line by line.
  7. Now press the = key to move to the next message. It replaces the first message in new window. Repeat steps 5 and 6.
  8. Now press the – key to return to the first message.
  9. Press the d key to delete the first message. The second message will open automatically.
  10. Now press the r key to reply to the second message. This will first open a dialog box to ask you if you want to copy the original message (press the Enter key to accept the default), and then it will automatically place you in the edit field of a new message window with my return email address. Remember that when you hear edit, you can now type your message.
  11. Type a reply message and press CTRL+Enter to send the new message.
  12. Let’s make some changes to the spell checker dialog box. First, tab until you hear check box unchecked, press the space bar to check the box. There are two boxes to check. Then tab until you hear Start Check button, and press the Enter key. All spell checks have trouble with abbreviations and names. You will have to tab to and press Add to Dictionary button. When the Spell check finishes, you should hear a Windows noise, and hear a dialog box. This one is confusing, you want to select the No button because you know that you have already spell checked the email.
  13. Exit Pegasus mail (ALT+F4). End of lesson.
