Your Room's Ready

By Kate Moss, Family Support Specialist, Texas Deafblind Outreach

In the past several issues of SEE/HEAR, I have mentioned that we were creating an electronic bulletin board for families. Our vision has been to create a place where people who have family members with visual impairments or deafblindness can connect. For example, many parents have expressed a desire for brothers and sisters without visual impairments or deafblindness to connect with other siblings for support and sharing. Additionally, teenagers have expressed the desire to hear from adults with visual impairment and to be able to ask them questions. Grandparents want to know other grandparents, too!

I am very pleased to announce that the Family Discussion Room is now open! Check it out! Simply surf the net to the TSBVI Website at < www.tsbvi.edu >, click on "Family Discussion Room", sign in and post your message. You can also view other postings and search for information on specific topics. I dropped by yesterday and there are already several postings. Here are a few ideas for how you may want to use this site:

The possibilities are endless! And professionals, we have not forgotten about you. There are several other discussion rooms available to you: Schools for the Blind Outreach Discussion Room, the Mentor Discussion Room and the AER Division 5 Discussion Room.
