Wrestling Tournament for the Visually Handicapped
Procedures and Rules

Type of Tournament
- National Federation of State High Schools Association.
- Double elimination with NO wrestle BACKS for second place.
- One Wrestler per weight class per school.

Weight Classes
- 98, 110, 119, 126, 132, 142, 150, 167, 176, 189, 275.
- The minimum weight for a 275-pound contestant is 195 pounds.

Weigh-ins
- One weigh-in with a three (3) pound allowance on Friday.
- Weigh-Ins will be ONE and a half (1 1/2) hours after all schools have arrived
at the host school.

Seeding Criteria -
according to 2000-2001 Rule Book
- Record against common opponents. (Head-to-Head) competition. If two wrestlers have split wins during the season, the
wrestler who won on the last match will be given the seed.
- Returning champion or runner up at the same weight class.
- A contestant with an exceptional record against strong opponents.
- Contestant with the best overall record
- Coaches vote.

Wrestler Placements
- Medals will be awarded for the first three (3) places. Size will be 21/2" in diameter with a red, white, and
blue ribbon.
- Ribbons will be awarded to the 4th through 6th place finishers with NO team
points awarded to 5th and 6th place finishers.
- Points for placement are as follows:
- First Place - 14 points
- Second Place - 1 0 points
- Third Place - 7 points
- Fourth Place - 4 points
- 5th and 6th Places - 0 points
- Individual scoring points are as follows:
- Pins - 2 points
- Advancements - 2 points
- Consolation Bracket - 1 point
- Technical Decisions - 1 1/2 points
- Major Decision - 1 point
- Byes - 2 points

Team Placements
- Team trophies will be awarded to the first (4) teams.

Wrestlers Eligibility
- A contestant must be either 14 years of age or in the seventh grade.
- A contestant must not have reached his 21st birthday prior to September 1st
of that school year.
- A contestant who is to represent his school in a tournament shall be named by
weight class.
- If a contestant does not make weight at the class he has entered, he will not
be allowed to bump up to the next weight class.
- A coach has the option of forfeiting a match if he feels that his wrestler is
significantly outmatched by his opponent. The
coach then has the option of entering his wrestler in the loser's bracket, but
only ONE (1) time.

Entry Fees
- SCASB to pay $150 ($75 per official) for Two (2) Officials. Host school to
absorb any remaining fees above $150.

Awards
- Individual medals for the first three (3) places in each weight class.
- Team Trophies will be awarded for the first four (4) places.
- Plaque for Outstanding Wrestler lower weights 98 - 142 lbs.
- Plaque for Outstanding Wrestler upper weights 150 - 275 lbs.
- Awards voted on by the coaches.

Trophies and Medals
- Sizes of trophies and medals will be as follows:
- Trophies: First Place - 18"
- Second Place - 16"
- Third Place - 14"
- Fourth Place - 12"
- Medals - 21/2" in diameter with red/white/blue ribbon
- Types of Trophies and Medals
- Trophies would be standard size made of wood
- Medals are to be standard for 1997 with a conference medal being designed and
put in place for 1998.
- Special die for medals.

Wrestling Sessions for
Tournament
- Friday will be designated for non-athletic events
- Saturday will be designated for athletic events
- 3rd weekend in January designated as official date for SCASB Wrestling
Tournament.
