Stepping Up: using short-term objectives to reach long-term goal.

June 13 - 24

Sample Class Report

People who are empowered have more fun, more friends, more freedom, more choices, and more control over their own lives.  In “It’s My Life,” students will develop self-determination skills that will help them lead more meaningful and satisfying lives.   The class helps students address such questions as:

  •
    • How can I gain more personal control over my own life?
    • How can I get the life I want, in terms of friends, education, and career?

The curriculum in “It’s My Life” is built around coming together, having fun, and developing real friendships.  Students will learn more about themselves and the people around them. They will develop skills for setting goals, solving problems, managing stress and emotions, communicating, and resolving conflict. The activities are fast-paced, varied, and powerful, and the students will take away a journal of personal information and resources.  This class is an opportunity students don’t want to pass up!

This class is based on the curriculum:  EMPOWERED: An Activity Based Self-Determination Curriculum for Students with Visual Impairments.
