Sample Class Report

Students who love to sing will enjoy this opportunity to learn more about enhancing their ability to sing alone and with others. They will be introduced to aspects of singing such as vocal technique, breath control, ear training, moving with music, singing in various styles with others, music literacy (including an introduction to reading print and Braille music), rhythm ensembles incorporated with singing, and songwriting,. This class will be enriched by interactions with local professional musicians and vocal groups. Students will visit various local music venues and meet with songwriters and performers. Opportunities to participate in creating original music may be available for interested students. Students will be exposed to adaptive technologies used by visually impaired musicians. And of course—there will be lots of singing! The class will conclude with a presentation before an audience.

A prerequisite for this class is the ability to match pitch—that is, to sing the same note that was played or sung by another. Choral experience is helpful but not required.
