Sample Class Report

Students who attend the Writer’s Workshop have the opportunity to improve their TEKS-related writing skills while having fun with creative poetry, prose, drama, and songwriting. They will also explore the performance aspect of creative writing. This could take the form of individual and group performance, or having others perform their work.

Students experience the writing process in a supportive group of peers, bouncing their ideas off others for inspiration and feedback. Off-campus activities within the creative community of Austin will inspire and expand students’ awareness of opportunities available to the working writer. Students will have the opportunity to learn from and perform with a variety of professional musicians, performers, and writers who live and work in Austin.

Writer’s Workshop is taught by a teacher of students with visual impairments who is a published writer, teaches English Language Arts, is an active member of the Austin theater community, and understands the expectations that TAKS testing places on visually impaired students. His ability to inspire student participation through this creative writing class is awesome.
