October 6 - 9, 2016Student composing at the piano

Grades 8 - 12

Face the music! We are making the transition to Unified English Braille (UEB). Songwriting and music are often appealing as personal expression outlets for teenagers. This program presents an opportunity for students to express their creative energies with an infused focus on UEB. In addition, students often express an interest in music as a vocation but are not exposed to the realities of creating music and writing songs as a livelihood.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Break down the elements of writing a song and explore each element,
  • Explore popular songs with a focus on changes to the braille code with the transition to UEB,
  • Workshop songs with a focus on social skills and effective communication strategies,
  • Explore a recording studio, and
  • Discuss music and songwriting with local musicians and songwriters in a small group setting.
