EIC - ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT: CLASS RANKING
VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN
Recognition for academic honors shall be given to the valedictorian and salutatorian
of the graduating class.
Guidelines and Requirements
The valedictorian and salutatorian will be selected according to the following
guidelines and requirements:
The valedictorian and the salutatorian:
- Are usually the highest-ranked eligible student and second highest-ranked
eligible student, respectively, in the graduating class;
- Must possess cumulative grade point averages (averages of all grades earned
beginning with 9th grade) of at least 85 on a 100 point scale carried out
to seven decimal points, if necessary;
- Must master the state exit level exam in all areas;
- Must demonstrate qualities desirable for membership in the National Honor
Society which includes scholarship, service, leadership and character; and
- Must exhibit qualities of a good citizen including respect for others,
punctuality, positive attitude, and responsibility.
SELECTION
The valedictorian and salutatorian will be selected by a committee appointed
by the Principal.
CO-VALEDICTORIANS AND CO-SALUTATORIANS
The committee may select co-valedictorians and co-salutatorians.
SIGNS TO BE POSTED
The School shall post appropriate signs in each counselor's office, in
each principal's office, and in each administrative building indicating
that applicants for admission to any general academic teaching

institution as listed in Education Code 61.003 will be automatically admitted
to the institution if the applicant:
- Is a first-time freshman;
- Graduated in one of the two school years preceding the academic year for
which the applicant is applying for admission from a public or private high
school in Texas that is accredited by a generally recognized accrediting
organization; and
- Graduatedwith a grade point average in the top ten percent of the student's
high school graduating class. [See CLASS RANK, below]
Admission Information
The signs shall also explain that:
- To qualify for automatic admission, an applicant must submit an application
before any application filing deadline established by the institution;
- After admission, an institution shall review the applicant's record
and any other factor the institution considers appropriate to determine whether
the applicant may require additional preparation for college-level work or
would benefit from inclusion in a retention program;
- The institution may require a student who has been identified as needing
additional instruction to enroll during the summer immediately after the
student is admitted to participate in appropriate enrichment courses and
orientation programs;
- A student who has not been identified as needing additional preparation
for college-level work may enroll, if the student chooses, during the summer
immediately after the student is admitted.
Dissemination
To assist in dissemination of this information, the School shall:
- Require that each high school counselor and class advisor be provided
a detailed explanation of the information detailed above, which contains
the substance of Education Code 51.803;
- Require that each high school counselor and senior class advisor explain
to eligible students the information above, which contains the substance
of Education Code 51.803; and
- Provide each eligible student, at the commencement of the student's
senior year, with a written notification of the student's eligibility
with a detailed explanation of the information above, which contains the
substance of Education Code 51.803.

CLASS RANK
High school rank for students seeking automatic admission to a general teaching
institution on the basis of their class rank is determined and reported as
follows:
- Class rank shall be based on the end of the eleventh grade, middle of
the twelfth grade, or at high school graduation, whichever is most recent
at the application deadline.
- The top ten percent of a high school class shall not contain more than
ten percent of the total class size.
- The student's rank shall be reported by the applicant's high school
or school district as a specific number out of a specific total class size
number.
- Class rank shall be determined by the Texas school or school district
from which the student graduated or is expected to graduate.
