Nemeth Translation Filter Information

From Susan Osterhaus:

We are beta testing the following Nemeth Translation filter in association with Scientific Notebook and find it to be extraordinarily valuable. I strongly urge those of you who meet the requirements to participate as well. I hope you will find it as helpful as we have. I am notorious for getting excited about mathematics, but I even have my non-math colleagues extolling the virtues of this new product.

Dear Interested Nemeth Code Braille Transcribers,

We would like to invite you to try out a recently developed Nemeth code translation filter, which translates LaTeX mathematics, written and edited in a "math-word processor" called Scientific Notebook, to Nemeth code.

This "math-word processor" is designed for student use, is fairly user-friendly, and is the only "math-word processor" where the user can type math or text at the same time.

Scientific Notebook and the translation filter requires:
a PC,
Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0,
about 100 mb free disk space,
a CD-Rom and 3 1/2 inch disk drives.

At the present time, Scientific Notebook and the translation filter are not yet accessible to a blind user. We hope to develop a screen reader in 1998. The translation filter is in a "beta testing" stage, so if you really think it will be valuable, we would like to invite you to beta-test the filter where your time and effort would be in exchange for the software. We are interested in finding beta testers who are transcribers for highschool and college mathematics. If you would like to participate, please email me your address and phone number, so that we can send you a CD of Scientific Notebook and a floppy of the translation filter. Printed instructions will accompany it, noting where you can get support, and where to direct information on problems.

If you know of others who would like to participate, please let me know. Please feel free to call me, or email me with any other questions.

Thanks so much for your time,
