The closing date for each position indicates only the minimum length of time a vacancy will be posted. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Sixty semester hours of college course-work -OR- participation in coursework at TSBVI expense and passing score on basic academic competencies exam. Must be proficient in Sign Language. Good writing and data collection skills. Must have sufficient physical strength to assist in lifting and/or transferring students up to adult age. Must receive TEA certification as an Instructional Aide III. In some assignments, the TA must be eligible to be approved to drive state vehicles. Preferred: College coursework in child development, education, psychology, vocational or related field. Experience working with children and youth with disabilities in a classroom or work setting.
General Description: The role of the Intervener is to support a deafblind student in his or her classes throughout the school day while performing other Teaching Assistant (TA) functions. A TA is responsible for supporting the classroom teacher and other staff in providing a supportive and effective environment in which students can develop new skills. The TA should provide this service within the guidelines of the school, as set forth in curriculum, policy and procedures. The TA works under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher, but participates as a full team member in developing and implementing classroom programs.

Strong ability to work closely with other professionals. Preferred: Experience working with academic level students at various grade levels, including adapted technology, literacy, math tools and low vision adaptations. Experience serving visually impaired students in their local districts.
General Description: Participates with other short-term program staff, other departments on campus, and local school districts to develop programs for and provide instruction to Texas students through a short-term, on-campus model. Programs include short classes for academic students during the school year, as well as coordinating some aspect of summer school programs. Provides intensive instruction in some aspect of the Expanded Core Curriculum during the school year; prepares instruction, including conference calls with local VI teachers and parents; writes individual student reports; participates in personal growth activities in order to stay on the cutting edge of services and participates in future program development for the department.

General Description: The role of the Safety Officer is to develop and administer an agency-wide safety program, with the primary goals of improving the school’s environment related to the health and safety of students and staff and otherwise identifying, minimizing and controlling the agency’s exposure to all types of losses.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Applicants may apply to be a substitute for any type of position at TSBVI, including, but not limited to, Residential Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Teacher, Nurse, Transportation Escort or Driver, Cook, Groundskeeper, or Custodian. After applying, applications will be reviewed in either the department requested, the department that best fits the previous experience of the applicant, or the department with the most needs for substitute. If you are selected to be a substitute, you must attend a New Employee Orientation. As a Substitute, you will be called on an as needed basis only; work hours are not specified or guaranteed.
