Section 3. Expressions which reflect various stages of concern

The following table summarizes the stages and gives some statements that might be typical of someone at that particular stage of concern.

Awareness
Aware a change is being introduced but not interested or knowledgeable. I am not concerned. Self

Interested in learning more about the concept, purpose, process, of the change. I would like to know more about it.

Personal
Concerned about the personal impact of the change on one's success. How will using it affect me?

Management
Concerned about the logistics of time, energy, resources. I seem to be spending all my time in getting material ready. Task

Consequence
Concerned about the impact of the change on students or the school. How is my use affecting kids? Impact

Collaboration
Interested in working with colleagues to make the change successful. I am concerned about relating what I am doing with what other instructors are doing.

Refocusing
Interested in exploring improvements or alternatives to the change. I have some ideas about something that would work even better.

This next table gives examples of statements someone might make if they were stuck at particular stage and statements they might make if they were ready to move to the next stage.
