This manual is intended for teachers and technicians who produce tactile diagrams. The primary focus is making diagrams with thermoformed plastic sheets.

The purpose of this report is to: (1) outline what areas of standardization of tactile graphics already exist; (2) explian from the tactilistsÕ perspective where standardization of production might take place; (3) list the general and specific recommendations and the basis for the CommitteeÕs findings; (4) set forth the specific recommendations as a separate set of guidelines or interim measures that all tactile producers and braillists should be encouraged to follow until such time as more formal testing either supports or rejects the Sub-CommitteeÕs findings; and (5) spark further discussion and the exchange of ideas and viewpoints among producers, educators, and consumers. The report is summarized in Part I: Research Findings & Recommendations (78 pp.). Part II: Interim Measures (66 pp.) lists production guidelines. The Supplement to the Report of Tactile Graphics Sub-Committee provides further guidelines and examples in large print and braille.
