A new and expanded conference will be open to all teachers, families, administrators, and any one else interested in the education of students with visual impairments. This conference has a broad focus, including topics on technology, O&M, low vision, infants and toddlers, children with visual and multiple disabilities, and deafblindness. The tentative keynote speaker will be Stephen Kuusisto, author of Planet of the Blind, an Oprah Book Club Selection.

El Paso is hosting a conference on planning for the future, recommended for families of children who are visually and multiply disabled. Topics
include: housing & employment, stress management techniques, successful advocacy/case management, and developing Individual Transition Plans. Special activities are planned for
children with multiple disabilities and their siblings.

The federal/state Children's Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, was enacted to help parents get medical insurance for their children. The March of Dimes is leading a statewide effort to work with the Texas Legislature to design CHIP so that as many children as possible can be insured.
