LMA for Students with Severe Disabilities (#25243)

This will be a focus on using the Koenig-Holbrook LMA and the Every Move Counts sensory assessment as an LMA for students with severe disabilities.  Handouts will include a sample report format. CPE credits will be offered. Academy CPUs pending.

Implementing the Sensory Learning Kit with Students who are Visually and Multiply Impaired (#25244)

This session involves an introduction to the use of Millie Smith's assessment and tools from the Sensory Learning Kit. The assessment with the readily available tools within the kit will help teachers understand a child's sensory preferences. This session is designed for VI teachers and classroom teachers with students who have multiple disabilities.

Adaptive PE for Students with Visual and Multiple Impairments or Deafblindness (#25272)

This TETN session will be of special interest to adaptive Parents, PE teachers, COMS, and TVIs. Dr. Mullens will provide specific information about how to adapt a wide variety of recreation and leisure activities for students with visual and multiple disabilities or deafblindness. She will also share information on the importance of considering communication and concept development through the use of the activities. CPE 1.5 will be offered. Academy CPU pending approval.

The Role of the TVI in Consultation (#25258)

Usher Syndrome (#25259)

This TETN will focus on the unique needs of the deaf student with Usher Syndrome, the combination of hearing loss and Retinitis Pigmentosa leading to deafblindness. Participants will learn about how a diagnosis is made, some of the basics of the syndrome, and how to support the student and family through the diagnostic process. Educational implications will also be discussed briefly and resources will be provided. Target audience: RDSPD Administrators and Staff, District AI Staff, TVI, COMS.

Usher Syndrome: An Overview (#30238)

This TETN will provide an overview of Usher Syndrome, the combination of hearing loss and Retinitis Pigmentosa leading to deafblindness. Participants will learn some of the basics of the syndrome, the challenges of supporting the student in the context of his/her family, and highlight educational implications. Simulations will be facilitated virtually and at select sights. Target audience: RDSPD Administrators and Staff, District AI Staff, TVI, COMS and parents of students diagnosed with Usher Syndrome.

Orientation and Mobility for Non-mobile Infants (#25260)

This TETN will focus on promoting the development of skills in non-mobile infants that lead to the exploration of (orientation) and movement through (mobility) a child's environment. This will include a discussion about developing body awareness, promoting the exploration of near space and developing awareness and use of the other senses. The participants will learn instructional methods and techniques to promote the development of a child's awareness of the environment, his relationship to it and ways to interact with it.

The Intervener Team Model: An Overview (#30917)

An overview of the Intervener Team Model especially designed for administrators and teams working with students who are deafblind. This session will summarize the uniqueness of deafblindness and address accommodations for this population. A checklist: "Interveners in the Classroom: Guidelines for Teams Working with Students who are Deafblind" will be introduced to assist administrators, teachers, interveners, and parents in understanding roles and responsibilities of interveners in the educational setting.

Data Analysis of the QPVI Master List (#25262)

CHARGE (#25263)

CHARGE is a very complex syndrome that requires extensive modification to the educational program for the child. Family members are intensely involved in on-going medical management. They also may need to be intensely involved with their educational team in providing appropriate programming. This broadcast will share some basic information about the syndrome, discuss statewide and national resources for parents, and briefly discuss educational issues that must be addressed for these children.
