Pinto Beans (Dry)

Instructions:

  1. Sort and wash before cooking.
  2. Cover beans with water and soak overnight.
  3. Bring water to a rolling boil; then boil gently 1 to 1 ½ hours or until beans are tender.
  4. Add salt during last 30 minutes of cooking.
  5. Add hot water as needed.

Note bacon or other spices can be added after step 1.

Quick Cook Method:

  1. Bring 1-quart water to a rolling boil.
  2. Slowly stir in 1 cup rinsed beans. Do not let boiling stop.
  3. Reduce heat; boil gently 2 to 2½ hours or until beans are tender.
  4. Add salt during last 30 minutes of cooking.
  5. Add hot water as needed.
